This course is the culminating experience for seniors, who are majoring in alcohol and drug counseling. In this course students reflect on their academic course of study and demonstrate the relationship between what they have learned and how they apply this to the professional practice of alcohol and drug counseling. In addition, students analyze and explore agency management systems which complement their practice of alcohol and drug counseling. This course is a combination of Senior Seminar in Alcohol and Drug Counseling and the Human Services Capstone. Prerequisite: Completion of at least 28 credits in the alcohol and drug counseling major, must have been completed or is currently or enrolled in an internship.

  1. 1. The knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to the transdisciplinary foundations and the professional practice dimensions of alcohol and drug counseling, as demonstrated by assigned readings, class discussion and student portfolio.
  2. 2. Evidence-based approaches to the practice of alcohol and drug counseling, as demonstrated by student portfolio and research project.
  3. 3. Social change directed at improving the practice of alcohol and drug counseling, as demonstrated by student portfolio and research project.
  4. 4. The ethical standards for delivery of alcohol and drug counseling services, as demonstrated by class discussion and exercises.

G. Special Information
Prerequisite: Completion of at least 32 credits in the Alcohol and Drug Counseling Major must have been completed or is currently or enrolled in an internship. Note: This course is open only to students who are in their last semester. Students must also be registered for the GRAD workshop, WKSP GRAD 81. Attendance at the first class meeting is mandatory. Any student not attending the first day of class will automatically be dropped from the course.
