This course examines the role of information systems applications involved in supporting supply chain operations. Topics covered include electronic purchasing, RFQ, reverse auctions, B2B exchanges, warehouse management systems, bar coding / RFID, mobile solutions for distribution and field force automation, ERP, reverse logistics, equipment maintenance tracking systems, transportation/shipping management and GPS. The underlying technologies of EDI and XML are also examined. Special emphasis is placed on building analysis skills for the detailed assessment of vendor software solutions in the supply chain arena.

  1. Collaborative Writing: Collaboratively compose comprehensive business report on IT solutions for a firm¿s supply chain
  2. Critical thinking: Assessment of requirements for addressing problems of information flow in the supply chain. Assessment of relevant solutions. Assessment and critique of peer presentations on course topics.
  3. Interactive discussion and argumentation: Online discussion of topics and cases to critique content from class sessions; stimulate discussion and debate by other students.
  4. Speaking and presentation design & delivery: Create oral presentation in depth (PowerPoint with embedded audio) on a particular supply chain technology and/or on a logistics software package.
  5. Writing: Individually compose essays that summarize critique and extend content and concepts from course materials.
