Prerequisites: WRIT 251 Introduction to Creative Writing or equivalent with instructor's consent.

In this course, students read and discuss poetry, learn the conventions of poetry writing, read each other's work and explore their own creative processes. This course may be repeated for credit.

  1. Apply and understand selected poetry devices especially figurative language.
  2. Articulate an informed personal reaction to works in the arts and humanities.
  3. Demonstrate awareness of the scope and variety of works in the arts and humanities.
  4. Describe and appreciate works in the arts and humanities as expressions of individual and collective values within an intellectual, cultural, historical and social context.
  5. Employ syntax and usage appropriate to academic disciplines and the professional world.

  7. Evaluation of all types of poetry while becoming increasingly versed with poetic analysis.
