The College for Kids program gives fourth through sixth grade students the opportunity to dream about the future, participate in hands-on learning experiences and sample college classes in a university environment. Prior to visiting Metropolitan State, the College for Kids coordinator visits each class to talk about college and career options. Each student fills out an application and receives a College for Kids acceptance letter. When they arrive at Metropolitan State, students register, receive an ID badge and attend two classes designed for their grade level. The day concludes with a graduation ceremony and each attendee receives a College for Kids diploma. Creative Writing, Art, Computer, Psychology Lab and Library classes are examples of classes designed and taught by Metropolitan State students through community-based coursework, and faculty and staff who volunteer their time for the event.
