St. Paul and Minneapolis Get Ready! middle school students have the opportunity to participate in a one-week program that focuses on career and educational options and as well as fun interactive classes. Students
attend classes like painting, bookmaking and photoshop classes, and visit the university-community library where they learn how to access books, movies, music for school and home. Students also participate in off campus service-learning projects and fieldtrips. All classes and workshops provide university students with teaching assistant opportunities.
YOUniversity students receive transportation, breakfast and lunch during the summer program! In addition to the planned activities, YOUniversity students have the opportunity to interact with other middle school students, university students and program staff.
The YOUniversity program is offered collaboratively through the Minnesota Higher Education Service Office's Get Ready! program and Metropolitan State's Center for Community-Based Learning.
Middle School Campus Visits
The Middle School Outreach program offers middle school students the opportunity to visit a college campus and public library, and to participate in hands-on age appropriate workshops and classes. Students "register" for classes, take a campus tour, have lunch and participate in 1-2 workshops developed by university students and staff.
