Steve Keating, Board ChairOn behalf of the Foundation Board of Trustees, I want to thank our many wonderful donors and volunteers who have made this a very successful year.  Throughout this past year, we have been introducing new individuals and organizations to Metropolitan State University who have made contributions that are very impactful for our students and our community.  Individuals, families and organizations can become involved with Metropolitan State in a variety of ways:

  • Be a  volunteer
  • Join us for community or special events
  • Sponsor a program or event
  • Be a donor for one of our unrestricted, programmatic or scholarship funds.

Because of the generosity and tremendous support of our donors and volunteers, we have achieved several milestones:

  • University to Offer First Peace Corps Baccalaureate Degree: Metropolitan State University has been selected to be the first and only university in the United States to offer a Peace Corps baccalaureate degree.   This program will enable Peace Corps volunteers with a two-year degree to complete a four-year degree as part of their tenure with the Peace Corps.  The program already has its first student, a female Peace Corps volunteer stationed in Mali.  A rollout event for this new program is tentatively scheduled for late October 2006.
  • First Two years Of College Provided Tuition-Free: An exciting new program, The Power of You Program, provides the first two years of college tuition free to Minneapolis and St. Paul public high school graduates.  The Power of You is a partnership of the Minneapolis Technical and Community College (MCTC), Saint Paul College and Metropolitan State University.  Now in its first year of operation, over 300 students have been accepted into this program.  To date, over $2.5 million has been raised for The Power of You.   We thank the following corporate and foundation funders for investing in our students:
    3M Foundation ADC Foundation
F.R. Bigelow Foundation Otto Bremer Foundation
    General Mills Foundation Graco Foundation
    Mardag Foundation Medtronic Foundation
