On Thursday, October 29, more than 200 people including many current and former public officials gathered for a surprise reception in honor of Patrick Flahaven and to dedicate a scholarship fund in his honor. Flahaven was honored for his 36 years as the Secretary of the Minnesota State Senate and for his strong commitment to public education. An outstanding alumni of Metropolitan State University, he earned two Masters degrees here and served as a Trustee on the University's Foundation Board for 10 years.
In his honor, the Patrick E. Flahaven Graduate Endowed Scholarship Fund has been established. More than $14,000 has been raised to date. This fund will provide scholarships to graduate students at Metropolitan State, continuing Flahaven's commitment to higher education.
