Privately Funded Scholarships

  • Reginald and Francis Coakley Ames Scholarship
    This scholarship provides up to five awards with a maximum award of $2,500 each, depending on the number of courses needed for graduation. To qualify, applicants must be a resident of Dakota, Ramsey or Washington county. The fund is supported by the Reginald and Francis Coakley Ames Family Fund of The Saint Paul Foundation.

  • Marina S. Anderson Endowed Scholarship
    Criteria to be determined by donor.

  • M. Olivia Bradshaw Endowed Scholarship Fund
    This scholarship award was established to honor the memory of M. Olivia Bradshaw, mother of former Metropolitan State University President Wilson G. Bradshaw. Funding was provided by Wilson G. and Jo Anna Bradshaw, as well as Metropolitan State University staff, faculty and students. One award of $750 will be distributed.

  • Marilyn T. Bryant Endowed Scholarship
    Established by former Foundation Board member, Marilyn T. Bryant, this scholarship provides financial assistance to a student in a College of Management graduate program who maintains a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. One award of up to $2,000 is given annually.

  • Herbert Collins Endowed Scholarship Fund
    Established by an anonymous donor, this fund will provide scholarship support to students in the Urban Teacher Program. Criteria to be determined by donor.

  • Commers Endowed Scholarship Fund
    Criteria to be determined by donor.

  • Community Involvement Scholarship
    This fund, established by the faculty, staff and students of Metropolitan State University, awards one or two scholarships of $250-500 each and is available to students in their Junior or Senior year who demonstrate community involvement and have a grade point average of 3.0 or above.

  • Dave Evenstar Memorial Management Accounting Scholarship Fund
    This scholarship is provided through the generous contributions of the St. Paul Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) to undergraduate students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who have completed or are currently enrolled in Acct 320-Strategic Management Accounting. One to three scholarships of $1,000 may be awarded every year.

  • Beverly Grossman Endowed Scholarship
    This renewable scholarship provides financial assistance to students in a Metropolitan State undergraduate or graduate nursing program with a focus on geriatrics. One scholarship of up to $3000 is awarded every two years.

  • GLBT and Allies Scholarship
    The GLBT and Allies (GLBTA) Scholarship fund was established to recognize and reward those Metropolitan State students who demonstrate activism and leadership within the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and/or allied community within Metropolitan State University, the broader community, or both.

  • The Gomez Family Endowed Scholarship

  • Iris Kiedrowski Endowed Scholarship
    This scholarship provides one award of at least $500 annually to an undergraduate student enrolled in Metropolitan State University's College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

  • Forrest W. King Textbook Scholarship Fund
    This fund provides up to three $115 scholarships to cover books for Metropolitan State courses.

  • Reatha Clark King Endowed Scholarship
    This scholarship was established to honor former Metropolitan State President Dr. Reatha Clark King. To qualify, applicants must be low income students who maintain at least half time status (6 credits per semester). Up to six scholarships of $1,000 - $3,000 are awarded each year.

  • N. Judge and Reatha Clark King Family Endowed Scholarship
    This scholarship was established to assist low income students who maintain at least half time status (6 credits per semester). One scholarship of $1,000 - $3,000 is awarded each year.

  • Kopp Presidential Scholarship
    This scholarship is provided through generous contributions from Lee Kopp of Kopp Investment Advisors. The funds support up to 20 scholarships to undergraduate students with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The amount of each award is $1,500.

  • Nancy Latimer Early Childhood Studies Fund
    This fund, established by the McKnight Foundation to honor former senior program officer, Nancy Latimer, provides one $2,200 scholarship annually to a Junior or Senior majoring in early childhood education or a related field. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

  • Carmen Love Endowed Scholarship
    This scholarship fund was established to assist low income students who maintain at least half time status (6 credits per semester). One scholarship of $1,000 - $3,000 is awarded each year.

  • Bonnie Luke Scholarship
    Bonnie Luke was an academic advisor at Metropolitan State from 1988 to 1994. She had a high regard for students who struggled to balance career, home and children. This scholarship celebrates her commitment to higher education. $750 is awarded each year to qualified students.

  • Fred Manzara Memorial Fund
    This fund was established to honor the memory of Dr. Fred Manzara, a well-respected faculty member in the University's College of Management. Monies in this fund are used to sponsor the Frederick Manzara Lecture series, support the Frederick Manzara Scholar Award and scholarships for students in the College of Management and some faculty support for significant career enhancing opportunities leading to improved teaching.

  • Roger and Nancy McCabe Endowed Scholarship in Nursing

  • Roger and Nancy McCabe Endowed Scholarship in Social Work
    Criteria to be determined by donor.

  • Roger and Nancy McCabe Urban Teacher Endowed Scholarship
    Criteria to be determined by donor.

  • Nancy McKillips Endowed Scholarship Fund
    Criteria to be determined by donor.

  • Susan Morrison Endowed Scholarship for Urban Teachers
    This scholarship was established by Metropolitan State University Alumnus and former Foundation Board member, Susan Morrison. Awards of $2,500 each are given to two undergraduate students who are pursuing a teaching degree in the Urban Teacher Program.

  • Karl Neid Endowed Scholarship
    This scholarship, established by the widow of St. Paul City Councilmember, Karl Neid, is offered once every two years and provides an award of $1,000 to a student who is a resident of the East Side of St. Paul or a graduate from an East Side high school.

  • Oehlke Family Fund
    This renewable scholarship is available annually to nursing students who are juniors or seniors with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

  • Prison Education Endowed Scholarship
    This scholarship was established to assist students who are enrolled in the university's prison program by helping them obtain their higher education degree, thus giving them an increased chance of gaining stable employment after release.

  • Psychology Scholarship
    This fund was established to support undergraduate students majoring in Psychology.

  • RCB Management Scholarship
    This scholarship was established to provide financial support to Accounting majors. Three awards of $500 each are made available per semester.

  • Charlie Rounds and Mark Hiemenz Urban Teacher Scholarship Fund
    This scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to teacher candidates in the Urban Teacher Program interested in teaching in urban schools. Additional criteria to be determined by donor.

  • Bernice Schapiro Shafer Scholarship
    This scholarship was established to honor Metropolitan State alum, Bernice Schapiro Shafer, and is for students enrolled in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences.

  • Sit Academic Scholarship
    This scholarship award is provided through generous contributions from Eugene Sit of Sit Investment Associates. The funds support five scholarships annually to undergraduate students with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Each award is $1,000.

  • Harry Specht Community Service Award
    Harry Specht (1929-1995) inspired a retired social worker to create the Specht Award for social work students of Metropolitan State University. This award is to encourage aspiring social workers to consider work in community-based social care and is open to daytime Juniors and all evening students who have not done their senior practicum. One or more students will receive an award of up to $2,000.

  • Student Scholarship Fund
    This is a general scholarship fund established to provide an additional source of student financial support.

  • Albert and Deera Tychman Endowed Scholarship
    This scholarship fund was established to assist low income students who maintain at least half time status (6 credits per semester). One scholarship of $1,000 - $3,000 is awarded each year.

  • Travelers Scholars Program
    This scholarship fund is aimed at preparing students for careers in the insurance industry and is established to provide financial support to students majoring in accounting, business administration, computer science, finance, marketing and other fields of study from which Travelers recruits prospective employees. Ten or more awards of $2000 each are given annually.

  • Urban Teacher Endowed Scholarship
    This scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to teacher candidates in the Urban Teacher Program interested in teaching in urban schools. Up to five $1,000 awards are given annually.
