ATTENTION! Effective Fall 2011, this major is being replaced by a newly approved Computer Information Technology B.S. degree. Completion provisions will be available for students currently admitted to the BA program prior to Fall 2011.
The BA program in Computer Information Systems focuses on the role, analysis, design, and implementation of information systems in organizations. The major is so designed that at the time of graduation, all students will have the following skills.
- A good knowledge of the role,analysis, design, and implementation of information systems in organizations.
- The ability to work in group projects and communicate well via written and oral presentations.
- Knowledge of the ethical and societal issues in computing.
- A strong knowledge in web-related development.
With the above skills in hand, the typical graduate of the program will be better prepared for career success in the industry. After a few years of graduation, students will
- have the flexibility, versatility, and problem solving skills that can be applied to business applications, so they will be productively employed in the computing field roles such as Computer Programmer, Software Developer, Software Engineer, and Software Systems Analyst.
- have strong writing and presentation skills.
- have a sense of societal and ethical responsibility in their professional endeavors.
Prospects: According to the US Department of Labor, the field is expected to experience exceptional growth, with rates that are projected to exceed all other occupational categories. Most graduates of the program are successfully employed in the industry.
