Metropolitan State's Department of Communication, Writing, and the Arts offers innovative undergraduate and graduate degrees focused on creating messages and making knowledge. Creativity, critical thinking, facility with research and technology, as well as the ability to speak, write, create, and perform for a variety of audiences in both professional and community settings are needed for effectiveness in these disciplines. The Communication, Writing and the Arts Department is composed of disciplines that share a significant theme - communication. Whether expressed through speech, writing or art, and whether on paper, canvas or a Web page, communication connects, builds, and maintains human culture and society.
Communication, writing and the arts involve creating messages and making knowledge. Doing these effectively in college and in the workplace requires creativity, critical thinking, facility with research and technology, as well as the ability to speak, write, create and perform for a variety of audiences in both professional and community settings. An education in such skills and learning is available to Metropolitan State students through the department's general education curriculum and its five majors, which are listed below.
