A minor in sociology awakens students to the social interactions and social processes that influence their chances in life. Students gain a deeper understanding of the concentric circles within which they reside and, consequently, begin to see what was previously invisible. Students are encouraged to integrate theory and practice through a variety of learning strategies that include practical application.

Social Science Department faculty have received numerous teaching awards recognizing them for their applied work on local, state, and global issues. Faculty are committed to integrating theory and practice within the Social Science Department program offerings.
