A Year of Change and Growth

2007 is a year of major change for the "former School of Nursing." The addition of several health science programs prompted the move from the College of Professional Studies and the creation of the new College of Nursing and Health Sciences. This allows the college to expand into other areas, starting with Dental Hygiene for fall 2007.

The following is the official announcement from Metropolitan State University's president Wilson Bradshaw:

From the President's Desk
June 25, 2007

In recent months, the scope and magnitude of the new and growing programs offered through our School of Nursing—particularly the doctorate in Nursing Practice and a collaborative Master’s program in Dental Hygiene—have made it advisable to create an appropriate collegiate home for our current and future health science programs. Therefore, I am pleased to announce that the former School of Nursing, which was part of the College of Professional Studies, will now be the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

In concert with this structural change, I have appointed Dr. Marilyn Loen, Executive Director of the School of Nursing, to serve as Dean of the new College of Nursing and Health Sciences, effective immediately.

This appointment recognizes the growth in the University’s undergraduate and graduate nursing programs under Dr. Loen's leadership, her work in securing approval for the newly-approved applied doctorate in nursing practice, and her work with the many cooperative programs for which she is responsible, including the HealthPartners Simulation Center and the emerging dental hygiene-related programs.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Loen upon this new opportunity to serve the University community and, through the new College, the residents of the metropolitan region.

Thank you.

Wilson G. Bradshaw, Ph.D.
President
