Welcome to the Department of Nursing at Metropolitan State University where we offer a broad range of programs that prepare you for an exciting life-long career in nursing! We are committed to preparing graduates to enhance the health of the underserved and diverse populations through uniquely designed programs, community partnerships, scholarly activities, and academic excellence.

Our part-time Registered Nurse to Baccalaureate (RN-BSN) degree program is unique as it is available at five community colleges and on Metropolitan State's Saint Paul campus. You can earn your Baccalaureate degree from Metropolitan State while taking most of your courses at the same campus where you earned your Associate degree or at another campus closer to home or work!

Our Entry Level Master of Science (ELMSN) degree is designed for students with a previous Baccalaureate degree in a field other than nursing. This seven-semester sequence of courses prepares you for the NCLEX-RN licensing examination and gives you graduate level course work in nursing leadership, nursing science and research, community health nursing, and intensive practicum experiences.

We are very proud to have both our RN-BSN and ELMSN programs endorsed by the American Holistic Nursing Certification Corporation. A holistic philosophy, consistent with the scope and standards of holistic nursing practice, is threaded throughout the coursework in both of these programs. Students who graduate from our endorsed programs, will be able to take the certification exam in holistic nursing, bypassing the need to provide evidence of one year of practice, CE hours or the Self-Reflection Assessment. Our programs also meet the requirements of the Minnesota Board of Nursing allowing students to register as a public health nurses after licensure.

The Department of Nursing offers a Master's program with a Nurse Educator track, a Leadership and Management track, and a Nursing and Public Health Nursing Leadership track. A fifteen credit Post-Master's Certificate in Nursing Education has recently been approved. We also offer a totally online Wound, Ostomy, Continence (WOC) Certification that prepares the post-baccalaureate RN to take the certification exam in WOC.

We are very excited to have recently received approval from Minnesota State Colleges and Universities to offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing to Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree (BSN-DNP) program. If you are interested in becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner, this may be the program for you!

Please explore our website to learn more about these exciting programs and contact us with any questions you may have.
