1. What undergraduate programs do you offer?
R.N.-B.S.N. program:
For nurses who have already completed an R.N. licensure program, either in an Associate Degree or Diploma program, who wish to complete their Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The Satellite R.N.-B.S.N. program is an extension of this program.

Post-baccalaureate to B.S.N. program:
For those who have a bachelor's degree in another field and now want to get their Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  Beginning with the January 31, 2008, applications, this program will be offered as an M.S.N. for initial R.N. 4. When do you admit students for the undergraduate program?
We admit students throughout the year for the R.N.-to-B.S.N. program. Students generally have one or more pre-nursing courses to complete. These courses are available every semester.

5. What is the application deadline?
Application deadlines are generally at least one month before the start of the semester you intend to enroll. However, students are advised to complete their applications and get all of their transcripts and other materials submitted as early as possible, to ensure time for processing, notification, and timely registration.

You must meet the application deadlines for the semester you plan to begin enrolling. These are available on the Admissions page.

6. Where are your nursing classes offered?
The College of Nursing and Health Sciences offers courses at the St. Paul East Side Campus. Some courses combine classroom and online formats. More online components will be developed in the coming months for the undergraduate program.

More locations are becoming available through the R.N.-B.S.N. Satellite program, where classes are being offered at three community colleges throughout the Metro area.

7. When are the nursing courses scheduled?
Our major courses are arranged so that students usually take nursing classes one day per week in a cohort, a group of students who move through the major program together. The class day for the nursing major is linked to the campus students choose for their cohort.

Some classes are online or web-enhanced. Non-nursing classes typically meet once per week, and could be scheduled during the day or evening hours.

8. What is the cost of attending Metropolitan State University for the RN-to-BSN program?
Please see Tuition and Fees.

9. How long does it take to complete the program?
Our R.N.-to-B.S.N. program is designed for working adults, and thus is scheduled as a part-time program. Students generally take six to eight credits per semester. For students with an Associate of Science in Nursing, but no additional coursework in their education background, following this schedule to complete the BSN would take about three years.

The major is designed to be taken over two years. The total length of the program would depend on how many credits of non-nursing courses would need to be completed to fulfill degree requirements.

10. I have a previous Bachelors Degree in a non-nursing field, as well as my nursing degree and R.N. license. Does this make any difference in my requirements?
Yes. Students with a previous baccalaureate degree need to take only two of the four pre-nursing courses: Statistics I, plus one of the other three. They are exempt from the university?s general education and liberal studies requirements.

11. May I take undergraduate courses without being admitted?
Yes; students may take non-nursing courses without being admitted to a degree program here at Metropolitan State University. Nondegree-seeking students must wait to register until the open registration period for the intended semester of enrollment.
However, since there is no guarantee of admission, students are generally advised to wait until after they have applied and been admitted to the program to begin taking classes. Students must be admitted to the nursing program to take the undergraduate nursing courses.
