During Registration

When to Register: The registration period start date and timeline are printed in the academic calendar either on the web or in your class schedule.
Courses fill fast. Be prepared to register at the earliest time open to you in order to ensure the best course selection. You may register according to how many credits you have completed; a combination of transfer credits (found on your GELS Worksheet) and courses with passing grades at Metropolitan State. Courses without grades are not considered completed.

Where to Register: You have the option of registering online, or via touch-tone phone. Registration instructions are on the web site or in the class schedule. Students are strongly encouraged to use NetDirect, a gateway to a wide variety of services that allow you for example, to access to your email, academic records, register online and much more.

What Not to Register For: Registering for a course simply because there is an opening is a waste of time and money. Consider whether the course is appropriate to your college level and applies toward degree requirements. For example: level 100 is at the freshman level, level 200 at the sophomore level, level 300 junior and level 400 a senior. Any student registering for a 300 - 500 level College of Management Course must have completed the 30 Credit Prerequisite for Upper-division COM Courses.

What to Register For: Use the tools already given to you to plan your degree progress and work with an advisor when you get stuck. The four documents you need to track your progress are:

  • General Education Liberal Studies (GELS) Worksheet sample (pdf)
  • Major Checklist sample (pdf)
  • Major Course Sequence sample (pdf)
  • Degree Completion sample (pdf)

Each undergraduate student in the College of Management is given an approved copy of their major checklist, course sequence, updated GELS worksheet, and degree completion form after they have declared a major. Each term, you should write on these documents the courses completed, credits, and grades. This way you will know what you have completed, and what you have left so you don't have to rely needlessly on your advisor. The Degree Completion form will indicate if you need any free electives to reach the minimum of 120 to 124 credits (depending on your major) to graduate. Of course, if you have questions, contacting your advisor is important (especially before registration starts).
