Application Packet
A complete application packet consists of two parts, all materials in part one must be must be submitted to be considered for full admission to the Urban Secondary Ed Graduate certificate program:
Part One
- Application
- The Metropolitan State Graduate Programs Application includes optional Request for Confidential Information.
- Non-refundable application fee
- Current fee of $20 is waived for graduates of Metropolitan State.
- Official transcripts
- Official transcripts for all previous college-level work in undergraduate and graduate programs. Transcripts must provide proof of undergraduate or graduate cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.

Part Two
- Letter of Intent
- A double-spaced word-processed paper explaining the following:
- Why you want to teach in the subject area of desired licensure,
- Why you have chosen Metropolitan State University,
- Your commitment to teaching in an urban setting,
- Your experience working with diverse youth in an urban context,
- Your understanding of and respect for the needs of diverse learners in urban communities, and
- How you will demonstrate professional conduct when interacting with students and educators in an urban environment.
- A double-spaced word-processed paper explaining the following:
- Current Resume
- A document including relative academic achievements, non-licensed teaching related experience, professional and community experience.
- Two Recommendations
- Two reference letters from persons involved with urban education, community or youth service.
- Copy of existing licenses with areas of specialization, if you are a currently licensed teacher in the state of Minnesota.
- Documentation of Urban Field Experience, if you are not a currently licensed teacher in the state of Minnesota.
- Major Declaration Form
- If completing a second undergraduate degree in a specific content area, i.e., Biology, English, Mathematics or Social Science, the College of Professional Studies Major Declaration Form is also required.

International Students
Because this is not a degree-granting program, applications from international students studying on an F-1 student visa will not be accepted.
