Application Deadlines
Students are accepted for admission to the Master of Arts in Psychology program in fall and spring semesters. Application materials must be received by March 1 for Fall admittance. For Spring, applications should be received in our office by September 1. Applications will continue to be accepted and considered after the due dates until the program is full.
Application Packet
A complete application packet consists of two parts:
Part One
- Application
- The Metropolitan State Graduate Programs Application includes optional Request for Confidential Information.
- Non-refundable application fee
- Current fee of $20 is waived for graduates of Metropolitan State.
- Official transcripts
- Official transcripts for all previous college-level work in undergraduate and graduate programs showing a baccalaureate degree or equivalent with grade-point average or narrative description of courses completed from all schools attended after high school and transcripts from any graduate or professional programs.

Part Two
All materials must be submitted to be considered for full admission to the Master of Arts Psychology program.
- Letter of intent
- A 1-3 page double-spaced letter that addresses the following:
- Why are you applying to this program?
- What should we know about you that will help us to make a decision regarding your admittance into this graduate program?
- What are your professional goals and how will this graduate program help you to fulfill those goals?
- How have your past academic, work, research, and community volunteer experiences prepared you for this graduate program?
- A 1-3 page double-spaced letter that addresses the following:
- Work history documentation
- In the form of either a narrative or your resume (resume is preferred)
- Three Reference Forms
- The letters of reference form sent directly by people who can best judge your ability to be successful in a graduate program in psychology. The recommendations should come from your college instructors (because they know and can talk about your academic work) and work supervisors (including volunteer work and internships). Must include:
- at least one former/current instructor
- at least one work/volunteer supervisor

Part Three - International Students Only
In addition to parts one and two, international student applicants must provide:
- Proof of English proficiency
(must show a minimum TOEFL score of 600 paper or 250 computer) - Financial statement
- Immunization records
- Passport, visa, I-94, international home address and phone numbers
