An official transcript is a transcript that typically bears the signature of the registrar and the official institution seal, and is sent directly from the issuing institution in a sealed envelope.
All applicants, including previous students and graduates of Metropolitan State University, are required to provide official transcripts from each school attended after high school, including any graduate or professional studies. The sole exception is for transcripts that can be retrieved via eTranscript (described below).
Failure to provide official transcripts is sufficient grounds to cancel your application and deny admission.
Non U.S. Institutions
All transcripts from non-U.S. schools must have a course-by-course transcript evaluation completed by either of the following organizations:
An official copy of your course-by-course transcript evaluation must be sent directly to the Graduate Studies Office; we will not accept student or fax copies.
It can take from six to eight weeks to receive a transcript evaluation report, so it is important that you initiate this process well in advance so that your report is received by the application deadline for your program of interest. Metropolitan State University is not responsible for any delays in receiving the report.
MnSCU institutions (eTranscript)
If you have attended an institution within the Minnesota State Colleges and University (MnSCU) system, Metropolitan State can usually pull your transcript using a tool called eTranscript. Please note:
- Application Required: A current application to one of our programs is required to authorize graduate admissions staff to use eTranscript. To protect student privacy, eTranscript does not permit us to look for a transcript until we have received your application.
- Success Rate: We are able to pull eTranscripts for about 95% of applicants. In the event that we cannot pull your transcript, we will notify you to request that an official transcript be sent to the Graduate Studies Office.
- Academic Reporting: Report ALL post-secondary institutions attended. Complete reporting assists graduate admissions staff in pulling transcripts using eTranscript.
If you have attended institutions outside of the MnSCU system, please request that your official transcript(s) be sent directly to the Graduate Studies Office. Official transcripts submitted by applicants cannot be accepted.
Start early to ensure that your official transcript(s) are in your application file before the application deadline for your graduate program. Meeting the deadline is your responsibility.
Official transcripts are an important part of the application process (Packet 1) and should be mailed to:
