This program is a year-round academic year program with a six-week summer component.  The goal is to increase the rate which Upward Bound students complete high school and enroll in and graduate from college or university. There is NO-COST to the student or family for Upward Bound services and programming.

Academic Year Services 

  • Tutoring
  • Academic enrichment activities
  • Civic engagement/service learning activities
  • Career exploration
  • MCA & ACT test preparation
  • Academic advising and workshops
  • Field trips (college fairs, college tours, cultural events, fun outings)
  • Family events and information sessions

Summer Component 

  • On-campus college life experience (residential college living)
  • Two weeks of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math classes
  • Two weeks of Arts and Humanities, Foreign Language classes
  • One-Two weeks of work-study, cultural trips, leadership activities


  • Enrolled in 9th or 10th grade at the time of application and attending or planning to attend Washington Technology Magnet School (student entering 9th grader in the next academic year can participate in the summer component)
  • Come from a limited income family and/or first-generation to attend college
  • In need of academic assistance
