Apply for Financial Aid
| 1 | Complete the FAFSA | Complete the FAFSA on the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Metropolitan State University's Federal School Code is 010374. |
| 2 | Apply for Admission | Only fully admitted students are eligible for aid. Please be sure to apply early. Please check the calendar for application deadline dates. |
| 3 | Wait 3 weeks for notification | You will receive an Award Offer or a request for additional information from the Financial Aid Office. Complete and return any documents requested. |
| 4 | Accept Federal Direct Loan Awards | If your Award Offer includes Federal Direct Loans, you must complete the Loan Request Form and Master Promissory Note (MPN)if you choose to accept the loans. Instructions are included in your Award Offer. Log on to the MnSCU Portal to view your Award Offer. |
| 5 | Sign Up for Direct Deposit of Financial Aid Overages | If your aid is greater than your tuition and fees, the overage will be disbursed to you by the Financial Management Office. Direct Deposit is the safest and fastest way to get your disbursement.

| 6 | Check your Financial Aid Status | Your financial aid will apply to your student account on the scheduled Disbursement Date. |
| 7 | Complete Entrance Counseling | Federal regulations require all first time borrowers to complete loan counseling prior to receiving their first loan. If you are a first time borrower please complete the online loan counseling session. |
