1 Apply for Admission
2 Complete the Preapplication Worksheet This worksheet will help gather the information you need to complete your FAFSA.
3 Complete the FAFSA Metropolitan State University's Federal School Code is 010374.
4 Wait 3 weeks for notification You will receive an Award Letter or a request for additional information from the Office of Student Financial Aid. Complete and return as requested.
5 Register for classes Your Award Letter states the amount of aid you qualify for at various credit levels.
6 Accept Stafford Loans If you were awarded Stafford loans, you must complete the Master Promissory Note to accept the loan funds.
7 Set up where to send Overages

If your aid is greater than your tuition and fees, the overage will be disbursed to you by Financial Management. Please set up how this will be done:

8 Check your Financial Aid Status Your financial aid will apply to your student account on the scheduled Disbursement Date.
9 Complete Entrance Counseling Federal regulations require all first time borrowers to complete loan counseling prior to receiving their first loan. If you are a first time borrower please complete the online loan counseling session.
10 Authorize who you want to access your information The Office of Student Financial Aid staff cannot share student information with anyone other than the student without prior expressed written permission from the student. This includes parents, siblings, spouses, friends, and/or organizations unless the student completes the Authorization to Release Student Information form.
11 Complete Exit Counseling Federal regulations require that student loan borrowers participate in a student loan exit counseling session after they graduate or drop below half-time status for more than one college term.
