Mission
The goal of Asian and Asian American Student Services is to facilitate an environment that fosters student success. In conjunction with academic and student affairs units, Asian and Asian American Student Services aims to encourage and empower students to self advocate, achieve both their academic and personal goals and graduate. Through collaborative partnerships with student organizations, social service and cultural community agencies, Asian and Asian American Student Services promotes academic success, cultural understanding, leadership skills and enhances the overall experiences of students at Metropolitan State University.
Program and Services
To ensure the success of our Asian students, the Asian Student Services provides on-going academic support and services for Metropolitan State's Asian population. Some of Asian Student Services' services are listed below:
Academic Advising
Asian students enrolled at Metropolitan State are closely monitor and tracked in terms of their academic progress. Intrusive advising is used as an early intervention process. Asian Student Services works closely with professors and their departments to ensure that Asian students are making satisfactory academic progress.
Career Advising/Development
Asian Student Services works in conjunction with Career Services to provide quality career advising and career workshops for Metropolitan State students. For more informaton visit Career Services or call 651-793-1528.
Community Involvement
Asian Student Services work in collaborations with various community based agencies and organizations to provide opportunities for our Asian students. We also link them with these university and the community organizations. As part of students' social and leadership development, they will have the opportunity to be involve with various community projects and events.
Cultural Programs
The Asian Student Services in conjunction with the Asian Student Organization will enrich the campus and the community by providing cultural programs and activities on a yearly basis.
Financial Aid Assistance
Asian Student Services staff will provide financial aid assistance and counseling to prospective and currently enrolled Asian students at Metropolitan State. Financial aid assistance can also be obtained at the Financial Aid Office on the St. Paul Campus in Founders Hall Room 105.
Internship Opportunities
There are a variety of internships available in the Twin Cities. Asian Student Services works in collaboration with the Internship Office and Career Services to make sure that Asian students are properly assigned to an appropriate internship site.
Leadership Development
Metropolitan State students will have the opportunity to participate in various leadership activities. These activities are designed to enhance students listening, communication, decision making, networking, and leadership skills.
Personal Counseling
Staff in the Asian Student Services provides confidential personal counseling to Asian students. Asian Student Services staff also works with and refer students to Student Counseling Services.
Workshops
Workshops are offered to provide Metropolitan State University's faculty, staff, and students with information about Asian history, Asian culture and heritage. Other workshops are conducted to provide students with information about majors, financial aid, scholarships, internships, career options, and undergraduate and graduate studies.
