The Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) is a fragrance-free environment.
Cologne, perfume, scented lotions, and other chemical fragrances can make some people sick, especially those with asthma, chemical sensitivities or allergies, or other respiratory ailments. Please refrain from wearing/using fragrances when you're at any of our Tutoring or Testing Center locations.

The Type of Service We Provide

The Math Center provides free support for learning mathematics and statistics at Metropolitan State University. Students can come to the Math Center for group work, individual practice and tutoring assistance. Tutors are available to work with individuals and groups during drop-in hours.

Our math tutors help students:

  • Cultivate a positive internal dialogue and discuss strategies to overcome “math anxiety”
  • Develop technical skills through modeling the process
  • Navigate conceptual difficulties
  • Practice study skills specific to mathematics

Our math tutors refrain from:

  • Completing student work
  • Providing primary instruction

The goal of our math tutors is to help students become independent and responsible for their learning. We want students and instructors to have confidence that the work students submit after visiting the Math Center arises from their own efforts and reflects their own understanding of the material.

  • Appointments are available for individual help with specific questions. We prefer that you make appointments at least 24 hours in advance if possible
  • Whereas we offer appointment tutoring for all math courses, we offer drop-in tutoring only for the following math courses: MATH-098, MATH-102, MATH-110, MATH-115, MATH-120, MATH-210, MATH-211, MATH-215, and STAT-201. An appointment is required for tutoring in any other math course not on this list
  • Handouts for the TI-83 or TI-83-Plus graphing calculator and other topics for math and statistics courses are available on-line and in the Math Center
  • We allow students a maximum of one math tutorial per course per day

We offer assistance in mathematics and statistic-based courses. Tutoring in economics, finance, and accounting is presently handled through the College of Management. For additional information on these services, call 612-659-7269.
