The Center for Academic Excellence(CAE) is a fragrance-free environment.

Cologne, perfume, scented lotions, and other chemical fragrances can make some people sick, especially those with asthma, chemical sensitivities or allergies, or other respiratory ailments. Please refrain from wearing/using fragrances when you're at any of our Tutoring or Testing Center locations.

The CAE provides a secure environment for:

  • Metropolitan State students who need to take make-up exams for classroom-based courses, online courses, and hybrid courses; independent study course exams; and waiver exams;
  • MnSCU students taking make-up exams for online courses; and
  • Other students taking exams for courses taught at non-MnSCU institutions.

There is no charge for testing for exams for courses taught at Metropolitan State University or MnSCU institutions. There is a $35 per exam fee for courses taught at non-MnSCU institutions, payable by check or money-order.

Instructors bear responsibility for administering their own examinations (for classroom, online, and/or hybrid courses). Due to staffing and space limitations, the Testing Center cannot proctor examinations for an entire course. We proctor examinations for individual students on a make-up basis only.

Instructors: please see Instructor Procedures for submitting exams to the Testing Center.

Students: please see Student Procedures for scheduling exams in the Testing Center. We also help make arrangements for an Off-site Proctor for students who cannot travel to our campuses to take exams for Metropolitan State courses. Note: you may need to clear your browser cache in order to access the most current version of the Off-site Proctor form.

Computers: accommodations for computerized exams are available at both locations.

Fragrances: please refrain from wearing fragrances or perfumes when visiting either Testing Center location.

Disability related testing accommodations:  testing services on the Saint Paul, Midway, or Minneapolis campuses may be obtained through the Disability Services office.

Placement assessment: tests and graduate admissions assessments may be scheduled through the Placement Assessment office.
