Metropolitan State is committed to the success of all faculty.  Supporting new community and resident faculty as they transition into their teaching roles and other responsibilities at Metropolitan State is a central part of the Center for Faculty Development’s mission.  The Center for Faculty Development organizes a number of programs meant to assist new faculty.

New Community Faculty Orientation
Offered three times a year, this Orientation offers an opportunity to meet key administrative support and Student Services staff members.  The Center for Faculty Development has also assembled a panel of community faculty members who will share their best practices and wisdom of experience.  A panel of Metropolitan State students will share some highlights of their classroom experience and describe a few challenges adult learners may face.  In addition, they will offer insights into what makes a great teacher.  Lastly, the meeting affords a valuable opportunity to network with other community faculty.  Attendees leave the event feeling more connected, more knowledgeable, and better prepared to teach at Metropolitan State University.  All community faculty are welcome to attend the Orientations.

New Resident Faculty Orientation
The Center for Faculty Development offers a three-day orientation for new full-time faculty in mid-August. Faculty, administrators, and staff from across the University come together during the orientation to welcome our new faculty, introduce them to the resources available to them and provide hands on technical training. In addition, the orientation serves as an opportunity for the new faculty to get to know each other and to begin what we hope is an on-going conversation during their time at Metropolitan State about teaching and learning and their roles as resident faculty members.

New Resident Faculty Seminar
During this monthly Friday afternoon seminar, new resident faculty will become better acquainted with each other as well as learning more about topics such as the promotion and tenure process at Metro State, dealing with academic dishonesty, community-based learning and engaged scholarship, and balancing life and work.

Please note:  We welcome new faculty participation in all of the Center for Faculty Development's consultation services and other programs.  Contact the Center for Faculty Development at faculty.development@metrostate.edu anytime to talk about these and other ways the center staff can be of assistance in your first year.
