2008-2009 Academic Year
Three Metropolitan State University instructors and two advisors were honored at the Sept. 12 Fall Faculty Conference for their exemplary instruction and advice to students.
Joel Wilson, Lakeville, assistant professor in accounting in the College of Management, received the 2008–2009 Outstanding Teaching Award. Last year, Wilson was presented an Excellence in Teaching Award.
Receiving 2008–2009 Excellence in Teaching Awards were Rikki Wagstrom, Saint Paul, assistant professor in mathematics in the College of Arts
and Sciences, and Brenden Schaaf, Brooklyn Park, community faculty member teaching accounting in the College of Management.
Susan Hilal, Plymouth, School of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice assistant professor and academic advisor, and Siew Wong, Saint Paul, College of Management academic advisor, were selected recipients of 2008–2009 Carol C. Ryan Excellence in Advising Awards.
2007-2008 Academic Year
Two Metropolitan State faculty members and two academic advisors were honored at the Fall Faculty Conference Sept. 13 for their stellar contributions during the 2007–2008 academic year.
Receiving the Excellence in Teaching Award were Daryl Parks,Woodbury, associate professor, literature and language, College of Arts and
Sciences and Urban Teacher Program; and Joel Wilson, Lakeville, assistant professor, College of Management. Megumi Yamasaki, Shoreview, assistant professor and academic advisor, First College, and Princess Kent Zak, New Richmond,Wis., advisor, College of Management, were selected recipients of the Carol C. Ryan Excellence in Advising Award.
Parks is in his fifth year teaching at the university. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English, and master’s and Ph.D. degrees in education, all from the University of Minnesota.
Wilson has taught at Metropolitan State full time since 2006. He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration/accounting from the
University of St. Thomas. A certified public accountant, he obtained an M.B.A. from the University of Minnesota.
Kent Zak has advised at Metropolitan State since 2005. A former director of African American Student Services at the university, she has a bachelor’s degree in print journalism from the University of St. Thomas. She holds a master’s degree in African American history from the
University ofWisconsin, Madison.
Yamasaki has advised and taught at the university since 2004. She received her B.A. in elementary and kindergarten education in her native Japan. She holds a master’s degree in international development education and a Ph.D. in comparative international development education, both from the University of Minnesota.
