| Books may be checked out for 28 days by students and community members and 90 days by faculty. |
| DVDs, CDs, and Videos can be checked out for 14 days by students and 7 days by community members. |
| Journals and reference materials cannot be checked out, except by faculty. |
| Study Rooms on the first and second floor of the Saint Paul campus library are available that hold 2-8 people (depending on the room). They can be checked out using your ID Card for 2 hour blocks of time. Students or faculty can reserve rooms up to 2 weeks in advance by calling 651-793-1616 or 651-793-1634. Study rooms can be renewed as long as no one else has reserved the room. |
| Laptops (with chargers) can be checked out by students, staff, or faculty for 4 hours at a time. Renewals are unlimited as long as no one else is waiting up until library closing time. Computer mice are also available for checkout. |
| Digital Cameras (Flip video or point and shoot) can be checked out for 7 days. An additional state issued ID card is required. Cameras come with a memory card, USB cable, case, and (optional) mini tripod. |
| Calculators can be checked out for 4 hours at a time. Scientific and financial calculators are available. |
| Accessibility equipment such as Victor Vibes, Streams and other recording and audio playback devices are available for checkout. Contact the library or the Disability Services office for details. |
Renewals
Renewals of Metro State Items
Renewals for most items checked out at Metro State can be done online, in person, over the phone or by email. Books, DVDs, and CDs can be renewed twice. Study rooms and laptops must be renewed in person. Study rooms can be renewed until someone else requests or books the room. There are no renewals on camerals.
Renewals for Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Items
Renewals for items borrowed from other libraries is dependent on the policies and needs of the other library.
Generally, only one renewal is allowed on ILL materials. However, there is no guarantee that the lending library will permit any renewal of the material. In order to avoid late charges, please place a renewal request for ILLs at least 7 days prior to the existing due date. This can be done online.
Additional renewals are possible in certain circumstances. If you need your ILL item for more than one renewal period, contact the Interlibrary Loan Department.
Fines
Fines for Overdue Items are assessed at the following rates:
For items owned by Metropolitan State:
Books - $5 late fee per item
$55 minimum replacement cost
Videos/ DVDs/ CDs - $5 late fee per item
$300 replacement cost
Laptops - late return may result in monetary fines.
Failure to return laptop equipment will result in overdue fines, repair charges not to exceed $200, academic holds, or replacement cost not to exceed $1200.
Cameras - $25 per day
replacement charge if lost or damaged
For all items obtained through interlibrary loan:
$10 late fee
$55 minimum replacement cost
