Students are encouraged to obtain their Metropolitan State University identification card as soon as possible. An activated card is required to check materials out of the library on both of our campuses and at other MNSCU institutions. A card is also needed to do an interlibrary loan.
Getting an ID in St. Paul
The student ID card can be obtained at Library Services on the St. Paul Campus during most hours that the library is open, including evenings and weekends. A driver's license or similar photo identification is required. A photograph will be taken at the time of application and your card will be issued immediately.
Getting an ID in Minneapolis
Cards are made in the Open Computer Lab in T.3200. You must bring:
- a copy of your current class schedule or fee statement. You may print a copy of your class schedule from the computer when you register.
- an official identification card which has your name and picture clearly shown (like a driver's license or passport)
Keep in mind that Student ID cards are issued beginning one hour after the lab opens until one hour before the lab closes. The most current Open Lab schedule is on the web at

If you lose your Student ID Card you must pay a $5.00 replacement fee at MCTC Business Services (T-Building skyway) in order to replace it. (Only your first Student ID Card is free.) Take the paid receipt that the Business Office gives you to the Open Computer Lab, and the staff will issue you a new Student ID Card.
