Two
Types of Article Databases
Which
article database to use depends upon your topic.
1. General Article Databases
- Is
your topic general or cross-disciplinary?
- Currently
in the news?
If so, start
with one of the general article databases. These cover a wide range
of subjects and often index a mixture of popular
and scholarly sources. This is often a good place to
begin research. Examples of general databases and the kinds of articles
they identify are:
|
|
Many EbscoHost databases index articles from magazines and journals
on a range of topics from 1987 to the present. Most are full
text. |
|
Some
Proquest databases index full text articles from over 500 U.S.
newspapers, from 1991 to present. |
|
|
Academic OneFile (InfoTrac)
is a one-stop source for news and periodical articles on a wide
range of topics. InfoTrac has millions of full-text articles,
many with images. |
