Metropolitan State University's "Team Data Fury" took first place at the Datagon competition. Advance IT Minnesota launched the 2017 Data Derby Minnesota, which is an annual multi-disciplinary competition open to all Minnesota State institutions. This competition allows student teams to compete and present data-driven answers to defined problems and societal issues.

They are from the Business Intelligence and Analytics (MIS380) class taught by Simon Sung Jin, assistant professor of management information systems in the College of Management.
The Data Derby challenge event showcased students' abilities to address data challenges. There were 18 student teams that participated, as well as over 20 faculty and industry guests.
