You are eligible to request a new Metropolitan State University ID Card. In May, we first announced that Metropolitan State University would be adopting a newly redesigned student, staff and faculty University ID Card. While the card has a new look, it will continue to have all the serviceable benefits of previously issued ID Cards, as well as function as a swipe/proxy card . The card will give all students access to the new Saint Paul Campus Parking ramp that opened two weeks ago.

How to obtain a new ID Card

There are two ways that you can obtain your new ID Card. The first option is to submit the following Online Request Form for a "pre-printed" ID card, using your previous ID Card photo. If you have never received a student ID, you will need to come to one of the two locations in St. Paul to have your ID printed. You may request pre-printed cards to be picked up at the following locations:

  • Saint Paul Campus, Gateway Student Services, Founders Hall, 1st Floor
  • LECJEC at Brooklyn Park Campus, Gateway Student Services, Room 147
  • MEC at Minneapolis, Gateway Student Services, MEC 1019; Please note the MEC location will have special hours during August but will have staffing between 10 AM - 3 PM most days.
  • Midway Location, Gateway Student Services, ETC Suite 147

*All "Pre-printed" ID Card requests will be available 7 - 10 business days after your request has been submitted. Please stop by your designated location after 10 business days to pick up your card.

If you choose to have a new picture taken, you may come to the Saint Paul Campus and obtain a new card at the following locations:

  • Circulation Desk on the second floor of the St. Paul Campus Library and Learning Center during most hours that the library is open, including evenings and weekends.
  • Office of Undergraduate Admissions on the first floor of Founders Hall during most hours that the Admissions Office is open, not including the evenings and weekends.
  • A photograph will be taken at the time of application and your card will be issued immediately.
  • For new IDs, students must present a valid, government-issued photo ID (such as a driver's license or passport) in order to receive the ID card.

Will my previous Metropolitan State University issued ID Card remain valid/function?

The previous University ID Card will remain valid and will continue to function except for parking access. Staff, faculty and students are not required to obtain a new card and will only receive a new card if they request a replacement. Those requesting a new card will not be subject to a replacement fee on their first replacement card.

How will the new ID Card function?

Similar to the previous Metropolitan State University ID Card, the new card will continue to have all the same serviceable benefits and function as a swipe/proxy card. The card will give all students access to the new Saint Paul Campus Parking ramp. It will eventually be used at the Minneapolis (MCTC) ramp as well. Watch for updates on that accessibility this fall.
