IT Student Support (Customer Service Help Desk)

IT Services provides students with walk-in, telephone and email support for technology questions and computing services. The Help Desk is located on the Saint Paul Campus in New Main L105.

Computer Labs

Metropolitan State offers open computer labs and computer-equipped classrooms at each of the following campuses:

  • Saint Paul
  • Midway
  • Minneapolis
  • Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Center (Brooklyn Park)

Computer lab assistants are available during select hours at each location to assist with technology needs. When lab assistants are not available, support is available during IT Support hours by phone and email through the IT Services Customer Service Help Desk.

Lab and staffing hours vary by campus, and may differ over semester breaks, holidays and summer terms. Some labs may be closed during spring break and other breaks.

Student User Accounts

Metropolitan State provides each student with their own user account. This user account provides access to University services including:

  • Email
  • Online courses ()
  • The Portal
  • Access to the wireless network
  • Computer lab and classroom computer access
  • Internet accessible file storage
  • Access to grades and online registration
  • Library research tools

and many other useful resources.

User accounts are created for new students when registered for Online Orientation or their first course. Account information is delivered by email to the student's personal email address. Students are encouraged to sign up for orientation or courses as early as possible since initial account creation is usually completed within three business days.

IT Work Study Employment Opportunity

IT Services offers part-time work study student employment opportunities for students who possess strong communication and customer service skills and who have basic technical skills who desire to assist students, staff and faculty with lab, classroom and technology support.
