Why was I charged a healthcare services fee?

The healthcare services fee covers the cost of healthcare and wellness programs that are required at all Minnesota State Universities (State Statute 136F.20).

How much is the health services fee?

The fee was approved by the Metropolitan State University Student Senate and costs $2.50 per credit.  

What are healthcare and wellness services available to students?

Students can access our telemedicine platform OnCare, in addition to other health and wellness events that will be held throughout the year.

How do I know if I am eligible to get health care and wellness services?

If you are currently an enrolled Metropolitan State University student, excluding PSEO, you are eligible to participate in healthcare and wellness services. 

What is OnCare?

OnCare is a telemedicine platform that is available online. Once you enter your symptoms, a healthcare provider will respond to your Metropolitan State University email with further instructions.

How long does it take to access the online OnCare telemedicine platform?

Once registered with OnCare, it takes only a few minutes to complete the process. Once you have completed the questions in OnCare, and a provider has reviewed your answers, you will receive an email via your Metropolitan State account telling you to log in to OnCare.

What happens after I entered my symptoms?

Once your symptoms are entered into OnCare, a provider will review your answers and you will then receive an email via your Metropolitan State account telling you to log into OnCare. Once logged in, you will either be told you were provided a prescription based on your symptoms, or that you will need to be seen by a healthcare provider for further examination.

What is the cost for accessing services online through OnCare?

There is no cost to currently enrolled Metropolitan State students, as it is covered by the healthcare services fee. 

What is a ticket?

If the student needs to be seen in a local designated Fairview clinic for a Strep test, a ticket would be issued to cover the cost. You will need to enter the promo code MSUTICKET to access your ticket.

Are tickets issued for anything other than Strep tests?

No, tickets are only available to cover the cost of a Strep test.

How do I obtain a ticket?

If it is determined by a healthcare provider that you need a Strep test, a ticket will be loaded into your OnCare account and you will need to enter the promo code MSUTicket to access the ticket. You will be notified via your Metropolitan State email that you have a new message, your ticket.

Do I need to print my ticket?

You can either print your ticket, or you can provide the clinic with the ticket via your cell phone or other electronic devices.

If I do not need to be seen by a healthcare provider, what happens next?

If you do not need to be seen by a healthcare provider, the provider may instead offer a prescription based on your symptoms. Students will be responsible for the cost of the prescription.

If a prescription is given, am I responsible for the cost?

Yes, if the healthcare provider gives the student a prescription based on their symptoms, then the student would be responsible for those acquired costs.

Since Metropolitan State has four campuses, where will healthcare and wellness services be located?

The healthcare and wellness services are available to all students via OnCare, in addition to holding on-campus events throughout the year.

Is there a limit on how many times I can use healthcare services?

No, as long as you are a student you can use healthcare services.

I am a PSEO student, do I have to pay the healthcare and wellness services fee?

No, PSEO students are not required to pay the health care fee.

I am an international student, do I have to pay the healthcare and wellness services fee?

Yes, international students are required to pay the health care services fee.

If I already have health insurance and a healthcare provider, do I still have to pay the fee?

Yes, even if you have health insurance and a healthcare provider, you still need to pay the fee.

Can I opt out of paying the $2.50 per credit fee?

No, all enrolled students must pay the health care fee, except PSEO students.

Can you use your personal email account to sign up for OnCare?

No, you must use your Metropolitan State email address in order to receive the services at no cost.

Can I use OnCare to refill prescriptions?

You will only be able to refill prescriptions with OnCare if the prescription was originally filled by a Fairview Healthcare provider.

Can I use a ticket for any onsite clinic visit?

No, the ticket is only used for a Strep test at one of the designated Fairview clinic locations. You will need to enter promo code MSUTICKET to access your ticket within OnCare. 

How do I get my results if I was seen at a clinic?

In order to view results, you must log back into Oncare. An email will be sent to your Metropolitan State account once the results are available.

Will my ticket pay for other services outside of a Strep test?

No, the ticket will only pay for a Strep test. If other services/tests are done, the student will be responsible for the costs that are acquired.

Will I still be eligible to access OnCare and other wellness services during summer or winter break?

If you are currently enrolled in spring and registered for the fall semester, then you will be eligible to continue using OnCare free of charge during the summer semester. In addition, if you are currently enrolled in the fall semester and are registered for spring semester, then you will be eligible to continue using OnCare free of charge during winter break.

Can we go to our local clinic to be seen?

No, if you are issued a ticket, you must be seen at a designated Fairview clinic. However, if it is recommended that you be seen for further examination by a healthcare provider, you may go to the provider of your choice. In addition, you will be responsible for the acquired costs.
