The Center for Faculty Development can help strengthen your teaching through confidential conversations and informal classroom observations. We offer a number of consultation services to support faculty in their teaching. Consultation services are available to all faculty.

Confidential Conversations

The Center for Faculty Development is available to consult one-on-one with all full- and part-time faculty on a range of teaching-related concerns and questions. We can meet with you face-to-face or correspond via email. Julie and Lori can serve as a sounding board, help brainstorm options and identify useful resources. We can also share what we've learned from talking with and observing other faculty members at Metropolitan State University and how they have addressed similar situations.

The Center for Faculty Development offers confidential conversations to assist in problem-solving, identifying creative strategies and innovative course delivery and design, helping with classroom management, and offering feedback on assignments and course syllabi. Rather than taking a prescriptive "one-size-fits-all" approach, we seek to understand a professor's particular goals and teaching contexts before considering possible courses of action. In some cases, a faculty member may choose to have Julie or Lori gather additional data about a class (for example, through a mid-semester assessment) in order to provide further contextual information.

Mid-semester Assessment

The Center for Faculty Development is also available to assist faculty in gathering formative feedback about a course while it is still in progress. Faculty chooses to arrange a mid-semester assessment in order to:

  • make adjustments to a course while it is in progress,
  • signal to students the professor's investment in their learning, and
  • provide additional evidence of teaching effectiveness (to supplement end-of-semester evaluations and peer review)

The Center for Faculty Development offers the following options to faculty interested in gathering mid-semester feedback:

  • Student written feedback
  • Classroom observation
  • Classroom videotaping
