Introduction

Whether you are new to Metropolitan State University, or transferring to the College of Individualized Studies from another college, the faculty and staff in the college are committed to easing the transition and to your success.

University Admission

If you are new to Metropolitan State, you need to be admitted before you can be admitted to a college or program. Meeting with an admissions counselor, or completing an application, is your first step. Admissions counselors can tell you which of your post-secondary education credits (if you have any) will transfer, and give you general information about Metropolitan State.

To arrange a visit with a Metropolitan State admissions counselor, call the Admissions Office in Saint Paul at 651-793-1302 or e-mail admission.metro@metrostate.edu

College of Individualized Studies Admission

If you are new to Metropolitan State you will be required to attend New Student Orientation. As part of the orientation, you will have the chance to attend a College of Individualized Studies program information meeting where you will learn more about the College of Individualized Studies, its policies and procedures, and the philosophy of Individualized Learning. If you are transferring from another program at the university, you will need to attend a Pre-advising Workshop, which will address the same topics.

Once you complete orientation or a Pre-advising Workshop, you will be assigned a College of Individualized Studies advisor. During your first semester you should take Prsp 301 Perspectives: Educational Philosophy and Planning, one of the college's two required courses. In this course you will design your Individualized Degree Plan.

Graduation

In your last semester, you should take the Prsp 499 Capstone, the second required course. You should also contact your advisor and register for the Graduation Workshop.

Keys dates for graduation planning are listed on the Academic/Events Calendar. Be sure you familiarize yourself with them, so you don't miss any of the graduation deadlines.
