Thank you for your interest in the programs offered by the Dental Hygiene Department at Metropolitan State University in the College of Health, Community and Professional Studies (CNHS). We welcome your exploration of our innovative programs and courses uniquely designed to prepare professionals for contemporary dental hygiene and advanced dental therapy practice.
The Master of Science in Advanced Dental Therapy (MSADT) program is the first program of its kind in the nation, preparing baccalaureate educated and licensed dental hygienists for the new dental provider role of advanced dental therapy. This nationally groundbreaking program expands the capacity and competency of the dental team and focuses on improving access to essential oral health care services.
The Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene (BSDH) program is designed for associate degree dental hygienists with the professional goal of completing a baccalaureate degree. This program prepares students for new opportunities in either traditional or non-traditional practice settings such as public health programs, school-based programs, research, marketing or sales roles.
The BSDH program has two avenues for admission and completion through Metropolitan State:
Bachelor of Science Dental Hygiene Degree Completion Program: The Bachelor of Science degree completion program provides associates degree educated dental hygienists the opportunity to complete a baccalaureate degree, Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene (BSDH). Our innovative baccalaureate degree completion program prepares individuals for positions of responsibility in dental hygiene, including advanced opportunities in clinical practice, education, management, community health, leadership roles, research, and sales.
Dual Admission and Enrollment Bachelor of Science Dental Hygiene Degree Completion Program: The baccalaureate degree completion pathway through dual admission/enrollment is arranged with five partnering Community Colleges: Normandale Community College, Lake Superior College, M-State Moorhead, Rochester Community and Technical College, and Century College. At the time of acceptance into partner Dental Hygiene Associate's programs, students fill out a Dual Admission/Enrollment Program Intent Form and are simultaneous admitted and enrolled in the BSDH program at Metropolitan State. The unique dual admission/enrollment partnerships offer students the opportunity to take specific bachelor's level degree completion courses along with associate program coursework on the partner community college campuses. This opportunity provides dental hygiene students flexibility in their educational and career planning and laddering.
A post-baccalaureate certificate program is available for baccalaureate-educated dental hygienists with an interest in focusing on contemporary dental hygiene topics.
The faculty, advisors, and staff are committed to providing expert education, and support to students preparing to serve the oral health needs of their communities. Please explore our website to learn more about these exciting programs and opportunities. We look forward to hearing from you!
