New Student Advising Tips

Suggestions for Freshman
  • A freshman is a student with 16 credits or less
  • On-campus group advising is required
  • Registration  requirements:
    • METR 101, 3 cr. Your Academic Journey
    • Writing or/and Math, based on placement scores
    • Schedule an individual appointment with advisor
  • Read and follow up on any communications you receive from advisor, department or university.
Suggestions for Transfer Students
  • Review your Degree Audit Report (DARS) which credits transfer from your previous institution
  • If required, complete required writing  and/or math  assessments and orientation as soon as possible.
  • Students with an Associate of Arts are suggested to contact their advisor to make certain all math courses or placement scores are completed for the sciences.
  • Read and follow up on any communications you receive from advisor, department or university.
Registration Tips
  • Know your Registration Window (eServices Registration Options) or timetable you are allowed to register which is based on how many credits you have earned.
  • Two weeks prior to your registration window opens
    • Resolve issues related to registration holds
    • Clarify requirements related to your major or GELS with advisor
    • Understand financial aid requirements and restrictions
  • Register as soon as your window opens
  • Add yourself to the wait-list if the course is full.
