New Student Orientation for Undergraduate Students
After receiving notification that you are admitted, as a new degree seeking student you are required to complete online or on-campus orientation before or during your first semester of courses.
You first need to complete the following two steps before getting registered for orientation:
Step 1: Activate your NetDirect Account
With your 8-digit Student/Tech ID number (upper right hand corner of your admission letter) and your PIN (set to the format of YYMMDD for your birthdate or last six digits of your social security number) you can activate your NetDirect account. If you have any problems with your PIN, please contact Gateway Student Services at 651 793-1302.
NetDirect is your personal access point to Metropolitan State University's tools, resources and student services support.
- Activating your account will create your NetDirect account login and create your University email account which allows you to receive official communications from the University.
- Your NetDirect account must be activated in order to gain access to the Online Orientation.
Step 2: Complete any required Diagnostic Assessments
If you are required to complete a diagnostic assessment, it will be indicated in your admission letter. You must complete diagnostic assessments before you can register for courses.
There are two orientation options:
Option 1: Online Orientation
Option 2: On-Campus Orientation
| Option 1: Online Orientation |
Most newly admitted undergraduate students may select to complete orientation online, though freshmen, students admitted on probation, TRIO and Power of You students are required to attend on-campus orientation.
To get registered for online orientation:
You must activate your NetDirect Account to complete the online orientation. Activating your NetDirect Account also creates your University email account. You need to send an email to Records.Registration@metrostate.edu from your newly created University email requesting to be registered for online orientation, be sure to include your Student/Tech ID number in the email.
- After receiving email confirmation that you are registered, to start online orientation log in to your NetDirect account and click the NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION icon.
- The comprehensive quiz can be completed 24 hours after you have been registered and only if you have activated your NetDirect account. Online orientation does not need to be completed in one session, you can start and stop and revisit it.
- Along with completing the online orientation remember you need to complete any required Diagnostic Assessments to be cleared to register for your first semester of courses.
