Herbert King, Dean of Students, joined Metropolitan State University in 2014. Previously, he had been Director of the Multicultural Student Center/International Admission and Services at Century College. Herbert has extensive experience in student affairs at both the community college and university level. His professional experiences include providing leadership and oversight for a number of student support areas including multicultural, international student and veterans resource services.

Prior to joining Century College, Herbert served as Director of African American Student Services at Metropolitan State University, Director of the Carver Academy College Access program at Iowa State University, Assistant Director of the Upward Bound program and Advisor for the Educational Opportunity Center TRIO program at the University of Northern Iowa.

While at Northern Iowa, Herbert also managed large federal and state financial aid grants and scholarship programs for underrepresented first-generation students. He also served on the Century College Achieve the Dream Equity Team, Auxiliary Services committee, LGBTQ task force and the Students of Color workgroup.

Herbert holds a B.A. degree in communication and an M.A. in human services and youth leadership administration, both from the University of Northern Iowa, and an Ed.D. in higher education administration from St. Cloud State University.
