Mary Jo Schifsky brings her passionate support for the value of older adults living their "best lives to their last breath"  to Metropolitan State University's Gerontology program. Following ten years as executive director for a nonprofit aging service provider, she founded GenSync LLC, intent on changing the dialogue about the role of older adults in the workforce. A skilled communicator and sought-after speaker, she's become part of the small-but-growing cadre of leaders focused on optimizing independence and strength among the rapidly-growing older demographic.

Schifsky's work history includes more than 40 years of business leadership, in both for- and nonprofit settings, serving as CEO and business owner, Executive Director and Director. Currently, she's a member of the MN Board on Aging, a Business Development Officer with WomenVenture and a member of SCORE's support team, offering programs in starting businesses at 50+. Named one of AARP's 50 over 50 in 2017, she completed a Master’s degree in education in the U of MN Organizational Leadership and Policy Development department in May 2020. She is stepping in to teach at Metro State on request, as the tenured professor takes a sabbatical.
