Major job duties

Staff members are asked to commit for a calendar year (two issues).

Managing Editor    

Oversee the gathering, organizing and publication of literary and art pieces for publication in a student literary magazine, including related publicity.

Recognize inherent issues of race, class and gender in student literary work and communicate effectively with student writers as needed on these issues.

Schedule all meetings, usually once a semester, to discuss timeline and ongoing activities. Email and phone contact as needed.

Collect all submissions from the submittable.com and assign to editors before review meeting date.

Notify all submitters whether their work has been accepted or not.

Approve design of print issue and write M.E. letter for each issue (total of two.)

Coordinate efforts of Business Manager, Web Editor and Design/Layout Editor.

Drive recruiting for new editors and issue Welcome letters to new editors.

Keep roster of contact information for all editors.

Manage Spring Reading at Open Book and other special events

Review and approve final magazine production files and give to Publications Office for printing.

Represent Haute Dish at special events like AWP Conference and other programs.  

Monitor Haute Dish email account; answer inquiries; forward items necessary for action; Haute Dish emails for submissions requests 


Business Manager

Liaison with University offices such as Student Life office for necessary requisition forms and student worker stipend forms; send forms to students as needed.

Manage Annual Budget for Haute Dish; obtain printing monies and stipends.

Prepare annual report/budget request documents for OrgSync and SAFAC in January.

Present Haute Dish budget request to SAFAC in February.

Represent Haute Dish at special events.

Attend necessary university organization and budget training.

Work with editors and faculty advisor on budget issues; length of magazine, printing specs etc.

Help promote student submissions to and awareness of Haute Dish – visit classes and distribute copies, etc. 

Liaison with other student organizations on cooperative efforts/shared expenses.

Proofread magazine.

Keep track of magazine printed inventory (now kept in Student Center storage.)

Distribution of printed magazines: Supervise Initial distribution and do monthly re-stock as needed.


Web Editor

Upload files for each online edition to the Haute Dish website

Update web site text as needed

Upload videos to website as needed

Ensure publication of online issue

Represent Haute Dish at special events

Facebook page admin



Design and production of InDesign files for magazine.

Create promotional material as needed.

Maintain checklist of layout elements for each issue and proofing requirements.

Represent Haute Dish at special events.

Qualifications and experience

Students receive a stipend of $300
