Major job duties

Meet one-to-one with TRIO undergraduate students who need academic assistance (general tutoring/college skill strategies).  • Assist students in general course areas (i.e. writing/communications, basic research, analytical reasoning, science, math, behavioral sciences and/or business). 
 

Qualifications and experience

TRIO currently seeks upper-division or graduate students with excellent communication and organizational skills to assist students with general assignment clarification, study skills, writing process improvement, reading comprehension, and general research skills. 
 
During the semester, the TRIO Study lab is open 48 hours per week, including mornings, afternoon, and evenings.  TRIO tutors will assist students in the TRIO Drop-in Study Lab, meeting individually or in small groups with undergraduate students who need academic assistance.   
 
Peer tutors should: • Have excellent writing skills and the ability to teach others to improve their writing and study skills • Have upper-division coursework and/or graduate work completed. • Be able to work independently and serve as an excellent role-model for college students.  
• Organizational and professional communication skills required to communicate professionally. Tutors must be responsible and dependable. • Previous tutoring/mentoring (general study skills) and/or working with students’ academic success is desired.   • Their role is to help students writing across all disciplines to understand and complete essays, work on time management and other study skills, and prepare for exams.  Tutors are generalist and not necessarily content experts. • Have upper division or graduate level status and a minimum of 3.0 grade point average
