Major job duties
All students interested in this position must commit to at least one calendar year, meaning they will oversee the publication of three issues while under their management.
1. Design and implement a specific timeline for gathering,
organizing and editing short literary works for publication in a student
literary magazine, including related publicity.
2. Recognize inherent issues of race, class and gender in
student literary work and communicate effectively with student writers
as needed on these issues.
3. Actively participate in and understand the process of editing
literary submissions for publication.
4. Schedule all meetings, generally twice a semester, to
discuss timeline and ongoing activities and evaluate afterward. Email
and phone contact as needed.
5. Group and one-on-one work with student writers.
6. Collect all submissions (usually a word doc file, from the faculty advisor and send off to all editors at least 10 days prior to selection meeting date.
7. Distribute among the editors equally the writers to notify for each publication of work accepted.
7. Completion, online publication and cover letter for each issue (total of three), of Haute Dish.
Qualifications and experience
Competence Statement
"Knows concepts and processes of editing at an introductory
level well enough to oversee the submission, evaluation, editing and
publication process of written creative works in an undergraduate online
student literary magazine."
