Major job duties
- Reach out (via zoom, phone, social media, D2L, email) to new freshmen, specifically those who are in any of the learning communities.
- Coordinate one social activity/team-building event per month for the program participants (approximately 3 activities throughout the semester).
- Assist with navigating students through university processes.
- Connect students with academic advisors and other campus resources.
- Manage Learning Community D2L page with information, tips and strategies for success and assist with creation.
- Monitor chat box, student questions and be able to answer them efficiently and appropriately.
- Assist with accepted new freshmen to enroll in 2022-2023 learning communities .
- Meet individually with students once a month.
- Record observations and submit monthly reports to the coordinator.
- Participate in Peer Mentor Training the week prior to the beginning of fall semester and throughout the semester as needed.
Qualifications and experience
Seeking Metro State students (4-5 positions) for the 2022-23 academic year with excellent communication and organizational skills to assist other Metro State students, mostly new college freshmen. Peer mentor will be responsible for making connections, creating engaging experiences, and assist in creating a sense of belonging with students new to the college experience. Must be able to reach out to students and create a welcoming environment. Demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion principles. Be able to work independently and in hybrid-settings. Priority for selection will be with students who started as new freshmen at Metro State and are now sophomore or above.
Starting date August 3st -15th, 2022
14-20 Hours a week for fall semester
10-14 Hours a week for spring semester
