Primary Responsibilities:

The Institute for Community Engagement and Scholarship is looking for a Student Program Coordinator to join our Youth Campus Visits Program team. This unique program brings K-12 students from area schools to Metro State’s St. Paul campus to participate in hands-on workshops, tours, student panels and other activities led by university students, faculty and community partners.

As part of a team, you will help to lead and facilitate our Youth Campus Visit program. This role focuses on the design and delivery of arts-related workshops, and collaborates with all members of the Youth Campus Visits team to deliver engaging programming for program participants. Your creativity, organizational skills, and knack for relationship-building are welcome here, as well as your individual passions, interests, and expertise!

You will play a key role in our program in the following ways:

  • Use your skills, knowledge & passion to create and lead exciting student workshops to our young visitors (particularly about math, science, tech or nursing);
  • Engage meaningfully with K-12 students and provide them with memorable experiences on campus;
  • Be a key contact between our partner schools and Metro State faculty, staff, and student employees to plan and deliver the Youth Campus Visits;
  • Work with the Community Engagement Coordinator to manage campus visit logistics, including scheduling, maintaining communication with partner schools, creating and preparing materials, leading campus tours, and other duties;
  • Alongside the Community Engagement Coordinator, recruit students, faculty, staff, and community partners as workshop teachers through classroom presentations, flyers, and student publications, email and phone outreach;
  • Lead your own workshops for youth and assist all workshop leads as needed;
  • Work with the Institute’s Operations Coordinator to ensure materials and supplies are ordered, rooms are reserved, and other logistics;
  • Collect and maintain survey data for the Youth Campus Visits program;

Assist with Institute-sponsored events and programming as needed.

Qualifications and experience

The Institute is looking for qualified candidates who:

  • Work effectively with K-12 & college students, university staff and faculty
  • Can work independently and as part of a team
  • Are self-starters and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to provide leadership to other college students
  • Have strong oral and written communication skills
  • Are organized and can juggle multiple tasks
  • Want to learn about community engagement practices
  • Are interested in a professional opportunity that can contribute to career growth
  • Enjoy problem-solving and are quick thinkers in unique and unexpected situations
  • Can create and maintain computerized records

Desired (but not required!):

  • Experience coordinating youth programs preferred
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • A passion for any of the STEM fields

Work Setting & Schedule

  • This position offers a flexible schedule, with Fridays from 9am-3pm requiring in-person attendance to host campus visits. Our weekly team meetings are on Tuesdays at 11am and typically in-person, although remote accommodations can be made when necessary.
