Human Anatomy and Physiology II

Detailed study of the anatomy and physiology of the human body with special emphasis on the relationship between structure and function. Includes the following topics: cardiovascular system, lymphatic system, nonspecific defense and immunity, respiratory system, digestive system, urinary system, fluid/electrolyte and acid/base balance, and reproductive system. Intended for students in nursing and other allied health sciences; does not count towards Biology major requirements; is not a general education science course.

Learning outcomes

General

  • Recognize and understand anatomical and physiological terminology.
  • Apply the concept of homeostasis to human physiological activity.
  • Recognize, describe and explain the structure and function of major body systems and organs including: cardiovascular, lymphatic, immune, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive system and fluid/electrolyte and acid/base balance.
  • Understand and explain fluid/electrolyte and acid/base balance in humans.
  • Evaluate select pathological conditions as they relate to normal functioning of the above-named systems.

  • Demonstrate understanding of scientific theories.
  • Formulate and test hypotheses by performing laboratory, simulation, or field experiments in at least two of the natural science disciplines.
