Beginning where MIS653/Mktg 653 Supply Chain Management/ Logistics Management leaves off, this course examines the use of information technology to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the corporate supply chain. Topics covered include the strategic role of key information technologies in business-to-business e-commerce; efficient customer response; enterprise resource planning; the virtual value chain. Prerequisite: MIS 653 Supply Chain Management/Logistics Management.

  1. Knows the kinds of information systems applications used to support business logistics, as well as the functional domains of the organizational process that each kind of application supports.
  2. Understands the points of integration and interdependencies (process and data) among different supply chain information systems applications; Understands the consequences for enterprise software implementation that result from a lack of application and data integration upon the processing of procurement and sales transactions, as well as manufacturing execution.
  3. Can analyze the feasibility and appropriateness of applying different kinds of IT solutions to problems within a typical industry supply chain.
