We're back!
Approximately 1,290 students are receiving bachelor's master's, and doctoral degrees this fall, as Metropolitan State observes its 109th commencement exercise.
This fall’s graduating class brings the total number of Metropolitan State alumni since 1971 to 51,099.
Fall commencement returns as an in-person events for families of graduates and will be celebrated Dec. 10 and 11 at Minneapolis Convention Center. Commencement has been scheduled as four events to allow for additional physical distance at the event space. The celebration will also be video streamed on the university website for those who are not in attendance.
Programs on Friday, Dec. 10 will recognize the College of Individualized Studies, College of Liberal Arts, and the School of Urban Education starting at 2 p.m., and the College of Management at 6 p.m.
Programs on Saturday, Dec. 11 will recognize the College of Sciences and College of Nursing and Health Sciences starting at 10:30 a.m., and the College of Community Studies and Public Affairs at 2:30 p.m.
Student speakers will include Pierre Young, Metropolitan State University Student Association Board Member; Don Shelby, President’s Outstanding Student Recipient, of the College of Individualized Studies; Carlos Sosa Viscarra, President’s Outstanding Student Recipient, of the College of Management; Angela Hary, President’s Outstanding Student Recipient, of the College of Sciences; and D’Andre Gordon, President’s Outstanding Student Recipient, of the College of Community Studies and Public Affairs.
Special guest speakers will be Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Jay Cowles, Chair of the Minnesota State Board of Trustees, Rudy Rodriguez, Vice Chair of the Minnesota State Board of Trustees, and Dawn Erlandson, member of the Minnesota State Board of Trustees.
Other commencement participants include:
- Virginia "Ginny" Arthur, J.D., Metropolitan State University president
- Dr. Amy Gort, provost and executive vice president for Academic and Student Affairs
- Dr. Matthew Filner, president of the Inter-Faculty Organization
