The Career Center invites you to participate in our November Career Day. Meet with local employers who want to hire you and share insights on how to make your job search successful. Each session will be uniquely different and cover new information. Join one session, or join them all.
Pre-registration is encouraged, but not required.
10 a.m.—Networking to get the Job with Fastenal
Did you know that 80% of all jobs are never posted on a job board? That means every time you look at Indeed, LinkedIn, or Handshake, you are only seeing 20% of the opportunities that are really out there. How do you find out about those other 80% of jobs or internships? Through NETWORKING! Networking can feel intimidating, but join the Career Center in hosting Fastenal’s Regional Recruiter in learning how you can network for the job.
Fastenal is a fast-growing supply chain solutions company that employs more than 20,000 people across more than 3,000 different locations. There is an opportunity for everyone with Fastenal. Endless opportunity means room for growth and interest in all majors offered at Metro. Fastenal is proud to offer OPT/CPT. Interested in learning more about Fastenal before November 8? Check out their careers page and learn about how they invest in their employees in the Fastenal School of Business.
11 a.m.—Navigating from college to career with MN Chamber
Join the MN Chamber and hear from three professionals about their experiences navigating from college to career. Panelists will share what they wish they knew as a college student before starting their own job search. Special guests will include employees from Waste Wise and Energy Smart who will share real world advice that you can apply to your future career. Panelists have backgrounds in environmental science and political science, but this session is open to all students and alumni, as everyone can learn something from other’s experiences.

2 p.m.—Interviewing to get the job with Baker Tilly
Join Baker Tilly in learning practical interviewing tips and recommendations on how to land the interview. In this session, you will learn interviewing best practices from Baker Tilly’s campus recruiting manager. This session is great for any Accounting students and alumni, but the information shared applies to all industries.
Are you interested in learning more about Baker Tilly? Baker Tilly is a public accounting and consulting firm with an annual revenue of over $919 million and host to more than 3,700 employees worldwide. In 2019, Vault Accounting ranked Baker Tilly as the 9th most prestigious accounting firm.

5 p.m.—Financial Wealth 101: Understanding the job offer with UpTurnships
One of the most stressful parts of a job search can actually be getting the job offer. Can you negotiate your salary? How do you negotiate? Are there other benefits you can negotiate? What is a 401k? How long do you have to think on your offer and how do you know if it is even a good offer? All of these questions and more will be answered by the amazing program coordinator at UpTurnships.
UpTurnships provides students paid internship opportunities across the Twin Cities. UpTurnships has a mission to build “strong bridges between gainful, growth-minded employers in the Twin Cities and dynamic, diverse local talent who are motivated, ambitious, and ready to be part of a new, more inclusive Minnesota workforce.” Internship opportunities focus around accounting/finance, marketing, sales, data analytics, human resources, and more. Even if your career is not focused in any of these areas, we invite and encourage you to attend to learn more about building your own wealth!
