The Theater Department and Theater Underground invite you to Dirt Sticks, a play about second chances and the importance of understanding the truth before making the life choices we do.

What will break the pull of the moon?” a dirt-poor young boy asks himself.

“A man’s got to have a better fate than making ladders all day!”

And so, we are introduced to a theater world not unlike the one we live in, where a penny sometimes sells for a nickel and truth has been re-arranged. How can one build a life based on false assumptions?

Produced by Metro State University’s Theater Underground, Dirt Sticks runs October 13, 14, 19, and 20 at 7 p.m., and October 21 at 2 p.m. at the Whitney Fine Arts Center on the Minneapolis Community College Campus at 1424 Yale Place right off Loring Park in Minneapolis. Seating is first come, first served (in the 200+ seat theater), and is free to audience members who are encouraged to bring an offering for the Minneapolis College food pantry. Doors will open 30 minutes before curtain and the lyrical, fast-moving production will run without intermission.

Metro State University’s Theater Program has a 25 year history of producing new work both by students and local playwrights. Dirt Sticks playwright, Kira Obolensky will be attending the production and will offer a “talk back" for the audience on Friday, October 20, following the performance. Dirt Sticks is directed by David Hanzal.

Inquiries regarding reserving handicapped seating are directed to gail.smogard@metrostate.edu.
